Memphis Beat

Jason Lee is one of my favorite actors. He was brilliant in Almost Famous, and his monologues in The Incredibles and Dogma are unmatched. He recently began starring in his second TV show: Memphis Beat, and each individual section of it is very good...but they don't go together.

Top Shot

The History Channel has a new show on TV, a "reality series" about the best sharpshooters around the world competing for the title... TOP SHOT. As a fan of First Person Shooters, how could I not watch it?

Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes (the movie) seems like someone read Sherlock Holmes (the Wikipedia entry) and said to themselves "Hey, I can make a movie like that!" The differences between Holmes the literary character and Holmes the movie character are night and day, plus there were a few odd cinematography choices that were very distracting to me.

Motorola Devour - Verizon Wireless

EDIT: After using the phone for a few weeks, I've dropped the score from AWESOME to WIN. There is only one reason: The OS. Motorola's custom build of Android 1.6 is not only years behind the curve, but it's full of problems. Buttons don't work, the home screen fails to show, the phone reboots at random intervals, the GPS turns itself off, ringtones randomly stop functioning, and keyboard key presses are dropped without warning. If you could flash the devour to a stock android ROM, I would love it.

Amp Energy: Overdrive

Amp: Overdrive advertises itself as an "Intense hit of cherry."  There's no better way to describe this beverage.  It's like when you go to Sonic and order a drink, and ask them to add some cherry syrup to it, and then they give it to you but it's not completely mixed and there's that pool of cherry syrup at the bottom and you take a big draw on the drinking straw and get the slam of incredibly powered up artificially flavored cherry flavoring.

If you like that... then you'll like Amp: Overdrive.

AMP Energy Sugar Free Lightning

A while back I posted a review for Amp: Lightning, a tasty energy dring which reminded me of the awesome flavor of lemonade.  My only complaint was that, at 220 calories, it wouldn't be part of my regular beverage rotation.  Then I saw, on the shelf at my local megamart, Amp: Lightning, Sugar Free.  Was this true?  Was I actually going to be able to have my cake and eat it too?

How to Train Your Dragon

I had very low expectations for this movie.  It's almost become a maxim of mine that Pixar is Good, Dreamworks is Meh.  But I heard some good things, a new theater was open nearby with 3D facilities, my family wanted to go, and heck, it's vacation so why not?  So we went... and I was quite surprised, it's really good.

Alice in Wonderland

The thing I like about Tim Burton movies, especially his movies made from books, is that he gives you 80% of what you're expecting, and 20% of something you're completely not, and somehow melds that into a really really good movie... and for the first half of this one, I'd thought I'd found an exception.

This movie is quite slow in the windup.  Thank God he assumes that we know most of the characters from the original book, for it saves us the tedium of all the introductions.

Rockstar Zero Carb

Rockstar Punched was my first run-in with the Rockstar brand of energy drinks, and it gave me a high opinion of the brand.  So when I saw that my local megamart was carrying the zero carb version of Rockstar, I decided to splurge.

In most cases, Sucralose is the magic ingredient.  I look for it when purchasing "zero carb" or "sugar free" beverages, as it does a great job of emulating the flavor profile of sugar.  Rockstar Zero Carb is proof that Sucralose is not a magic ingredient.

Inglorious Basterds

Inglorious Basterds takes place sorta-kinda in World War 2, but this is a World War 2 where the US didn't follow any war crimes guidelines, and Hitler was killed in a grand allied plot rather than shooting himself in a ditch. Also, lots of cursing and blood and obviously fake gore.
