So, I finally have my grubby mitts on Star Trek Online… I’ve been waiting so long for this.
This post will contain first impressions, a bug and recommended update thread, and some stuff I’ve really enjoyed seeing in the game.
I downloaded the game, installed it, then went to work!
Really.
I first found this anime on a discount rack at a used video shop and was intrigued, as a Shirlock Holmes fan.
The four episodes I had in hand were fun and intriguing, but I didn't really want to review the series until I could get my hands on a better source.
A better source I've found! And it's YouTube! And having viewed even more episodes, I can finally, safely, give it an AWESOME.
Okay, first things first, in order to even "get" this game, you must first look over the Loserman animated Gifs. I don't have the link handy, but if I recall, Spoony has left it on the download page.
The game opens as our ragefully rotund hero has all but obviously let a bunch of friends sleep on his bright red rug. Further inspection reveals that, gasp and amazement, they're dead! That's either one uncomfortable rug, or one really comfortable rug. Begrieved, out hero does the only sensible thing there is. He goes on a killing rampage.
One of the free pieces of software you can get from the Good Old Games service for free is Beneath a Steel Sky a point and click adventure published in 1994.
The 14-15 years that have gone by since publishing this game to today have not diminished the fun factor. This game is still technically playable, and the story is still loads of fun.
Oh and did I mention it's free? (Yeah, I have.)
Ah, the good old days in gaming. When men were real men, when games could reference popular culture with impunity, when choosing between CGA and EGA was a big deal. Everyone had a game or three they used back in the Amiga and Commodore 64 days before the dark times of the console wars. Up until now, you're only luck was to find abandonware, or perhaps find an old crack of the game and pirate your eyes out.
But now there's a better option: Good Old Games, or gog.com, a site that sells properly licensed (and properly cracked, so no more TSR Code Wheels or Manual Image Matching Games) Good Old Games, for cheap!
I've been a console gamer for years. I wouldn't call myself a "Nintendo Fanboy," but I will admit to never finding any good reasons to ever buy any other kind of console.
Now I'm a Windows PC gamer... unlike consoles which (at least until recently) just worked, Windows PCs need special types of coddling. Antivirus, antispyware, firewalls for operating in hostile network environments... I wanted a simple solution that just worked.
So I found Bitdefender GameSafe.
Oh and did I mention it's free? (For 90 days at least)
I have a confession to make: Sam and Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die was the first Sam and Max episode I ever played. I've been playing them again and working through the reviews one at a time to be absolutely fair, but this is the best in the series, bar none.
Oh and did I mention it's free?
Peggle? Really? Oh yes.
Peggle makes a tribute to Valve's Source games (except for Left4Dead, which is understandable when you factor in development time) in a fun to play, thirty minute package of greatness.
Oh and did I mention it's free?
Insurgency is the must get mod for Half-Life 2's Source engine. With a focus on "real combat simulation" and squad based combat, it's a different FPS experience than usual.
Oh and did I mention it's free? So go get it now. Valve is letting Mod's have a place on Steam, so just search Insurgency, or go here: http://www.insmod.net/
