Peggle? Really? Oh yes.
Peggle makes a tribute to Valve's Source games (except for Left4Dead, which is understandable when you factor in development time) in a fun to play, thirty minute package of greatness.
Oh and did I mention it's free?
If you liked Half-Life, and you haven't played Half-Life 2, and you didn't start playing the Half-Life series due to my previous Gamium review of Half-Life, then you should be ashamed of yourself. Load up Steam and buy it now. For everyone else who hasn't played it, you need to go ahead and play it. If Half-Life was an EPIC WIN, Half-Life 2 is in the same boat. As Captain.
Now, I know I'm behind the times. I hadn't even played a First Person Shooter until middle-of-the-year 2008. But I think I like the Half-Life series because they're very, very story driven. It's not "go out and nuke headcrabs," it's "headcrabs are eating up all the hot chicks in the area, so shoot them to stop them as zombie chicks aren't hot."
The third in the Half Life series, and the second game mod developed by Gearbox and Valve, Half Life: Blue Shift follows the adventures of Officer Barney, one of the many security guards at Black Mesa during the resonance cascade. There's not much new here, if you've played through the other two Half Life games (Half Life and Half Life: Opposing Force), but seeing the game from another perspective is fun. Also, the story is pretty good, not to mention in this game you're not the Hero Being Hired by G-Man, nor the Military Man Who Piques G-Man's Interest. You're Random Security Guard 8 who escapes in the nick of time. I like that twist.
Not to mention I didn't have to use ANY cheat codes this time. I must be getting better.
After beating Half Life and discovering that it had two "sequels" (Opposing Force and Blue Shift), well, I had to give them a try. Everything that made Half Life good went into Op Force, making it good as well.
I had a hard time deciding what score to give Half Life. It was very very fun, but it had a difficulty curve that made me cry and all angsty for a bit. Should I dock the whole game for one issue? The decision: NO... so Half Life: Source gets EPIC WIN.
